Common Rituals in Kapu Marriages
- Nalugu: Turmeric Paste, Sandal Paste will be applied to Bride and Groom separately in their homes. Oil will be applied for the hair and Hands. Followed by Bath with Rose Petals, Turmeric, Sandal, Rosewater and other ingredients.
- Sangyam: Depends on the region on interest. This process was laid down.
- Kasi Yatra: This ritual marks the ends of Brahmacharya. The boy steps out of the Mantap for Kasi Yatra. The Bride’s brother/ father request the boy to come back and marry her sister/ daughter. During this ritual, the Bride’s family will be offering, Slippers, Umbrella, Bamboo stick fan.
- Kanyadanam: During this process, Bride’s Father and Mother was the Groom’s feet. In the case of Father/ Mother absence, Close or Distant Relative can act as Father and Mother to perform the ritual.
- Madhurapakam (Jeelakarra Bellam): This is the major event in the marriage ritual. The boy and Girl place the Jeelakarra and Bellamu mix on each other’s heads. This will be placed on the Muhurtham timings.
- Mangalyadharana: Thalli Bottu will be tied to the Girl by the Girl’s mother and Grom ties another one.
- Saptapadi: The bride and the groom will around fire seven steps together.
Post marriage, the girl as the daughter-in-law steps into in-laws house. Maternal aunty will be accompanying the girl. Garbhadhan will be performed in the girl’s house. The boy will be staying at Girl’s house for the first 3 days followed by 2 days at boy’s house.
