Procedure for Marriage Registration in Tamilnadu for Hindu and Non-Hindu Marriages.
Registering of Hindu marriages solemnized and granting the extract of marriages that have been registered.
• Marriages solemnized under Hindu customs or non-customary
• The bridegroom and the bride should have reached 21 and 18 years of age, respectively.
• Both should be Hindus
Procedure for Marriage Registration in Tamilnadu
- Any of the following places is subject to the area of responsibility of the registrar.
• The residence of the bride.
• The residence of the bridegroom.
• Place of Solemnization. - Wedding Invitation: Wedding Invitation (or) Temple Marriage Receipts (or) Any evidence of wedding ceremony
- Residence: Employee ID Card (or) Ration Card (or) Driving License (or) Passport or Visa
- Age: Birth Certificate (or) School/College Certificate (or) Passport / Visa
Marriage registration fee:
- To register a celebration that is exempt from all additional fees that the Devasthanam imposes for marriages taking place inside temples, Rs. 100
- To obtain an authentic copy of the entry in the Hindu Marriage Register: Rs. 10.00
- To conduct an Internet search
- If you have entered the current value: of Rs. 10.00,
- when the entry relates to a previous period or year (for each year): Rs. 10.00
- To register an event of marriage beyond that office, the marriage registrar’s fee. This fee will be authorized to the marriage registrar in addition to the cost of entry above Rs. 50.00
- Application fees to register the marriage in any location other than the marriage office (registrar): Rs. 200.00
If there is no search fee assessed for granting the certified copy of an entry made in the Hindu Marriage Register on application at the moment of the registration of marriage,
Further, an amount of rupees in the form of labels for court fees affixed to the application will be charged for each application submitted to accept this certified copy.
Registration of marriage under the Tamil Nadu Act:
- Weddings legally registered under any personal law could be legally registered.
- The bridegroom or bride must have completed 21 and 18 years of age, respectively.
- It can be registered within 90 days, without penalty, and in 90–150 days, after which it will be subject to a fine. After that, it cannot be registered.
- The proof of marriage
- The following places should be under the authority of the registering officer:
- Place of solemnization.
- Proof for each of these will be provided
- Marriage Wedding Invitation (or) Wedding Receipts from Temple or Church (or) any proof of wedding solemnization
- RESIDENCE Voter ID Card (or) Ration Card (or) Driving License (or) Passport or Visa
- AGE Birth Certificate (or) School/College Certificate (or) Passport / Visa
- Identification card of witnesses for at least two witnesses to be presented
- Alongside the memorandum above in duplicate, passport-size photos of the bride and a passport-size photo of the groom should be sent.
Registration of special marriages and the issuance certificate:
- Marriages are legally binding before the registering officer or in any other way.
- The bridegroom and bride should have reached 21 and 18 years, respectively.
- Any of the following places fall within the authority of the registrar:
- The residence of the bride.
- Wedding venue of the bridegroom.
- Proof for each of these will be provided.
- Notice of marriages shortly.
- If there is no objection to the marriage being made within 30 days of the date of the notice, the wedding will be registered.
Dowry Prohibition
According to the Dowry Prohibition Act, demanding or accepting dowry, either directly or indirectly, is a punishable crime.
A fine of Rs. 5,000 or imprisonment up to 6 months or both.
District registrars are also authorized to approve prosecutions.
The registrants can file complaints with the district registrar.
