Preparation

  • Sri Vanja Kalpa Ganapathy, A priest skilled in Vedic rituals, conducts Homa.
  • Homa is performed in a clean, sanctified area. This can be a temple altar or a home altar.
  • Materials for the homa are ghee (clarified butter), rice grains, sesame seed, camphor, fruits, flowers, incense sticks, and other offerings.

Vanja Kalpa Ganapati Homam Procedure

  • The ritual starts with consecration (Agni) and the chanting of Vedic mantras that invoke the presence of Lord Ganesha.
  • Invoking the main deity, Sri Vanja Kalpa Ganesh, into the sacrificial flame while chanting specific hymns and praying.
  • While reciting sacred scriptures, offerings such as rice grains, sesame seeds, ghee, and other auspicious objects are placed into the fire.
  • The priest can also perform Abhishekam, a ritual of bathing the idol using holy water, milk or yoghurt, honey, and ghee.
  • During the homa, the devotees sing the Ganesha mantra and other hymns to Lord Ganesha. They express their wishes and seek his blessings to fulfil them.
  • As part of the homa, special rituals and offerings can be made to increase its potency.
  • Prasad is distributed to participants at the end of the homa to symbolise the blessings they received from Lord Ganesha.
  • Three reasons are usually given for a boon:
  • The Karma Phala has to be done and is hurried (Karma means the results of righteous action).
  • God draws the deity through the mantra of the priest or upasagar, who has the right to chant this mantra or is proficient in it.
